Lauren & Michael
Saturday 22nd April 2017 // Brisbane City, Queensland
Lauren and Michael are a beautiful couple who met while working at the same accounting firm. After a few years of friendly banter, Michael finally plucked up the courage and asked Lauren out for a drink. The rest, as they say, is history. And it culminated with the most magical wedding day.
Lauren was very well organised in the lead up to her wedding, however as the calendar got smaller and smaller she knew she needed someone on the day to help run things. It was a lot to ask for a family member or a friend, and as Lauren was all about the small details she knew she needed someone who took a vested interest in her special day and would help alleviate all the natural stress that comes with a wedding.
Enter Champagne and Confetti!
I met Lauren and Michael through a celebrant friend Felicity. And after a few emails and texts back and forth, we hooked up for a coffee and chatted for what felt like hours about their plans, and their three-week European honeymoon (insert envy here). I asked them to consider working with Champagne and Confetti, but the booking formed was signed then and there, and that was that.
The ceremony was booked on a Saturday afternoon at Riverlife Parklands overlooking Brisbane city in all its beauty. The weather was perfect, the skyscrapers shading the park, and the sun danced and glowed on the river making it a breathtaking venue and an ideal outdoor venue. First to arrive was an anxious Michael along with his groomsmen. They greeted the wedding party as they pulled in one by one. I placed the buttonholes on each of the men’s jackets, as well as the corsages for Michael’s mum and grandmother. And then, we waited.
And then, the limousine arrived, and out stepped Lauren and her bridal party looking incredible. Even I lost my breath, so I can’t imagine how poor Michael felt! When you work in events you’re trained to expect the unexpected. In this case, it meant I had to walk down the aisle as well (as three-year-old page boy Harry cried when I tried to let go of his hand. I must thank Harry though, it was a treat walking down the aisle as an unofficial member of the bridal party)
By now you’d think I’d be used to seeing fathers give their daughters away, but you’d be wrong. I had goosebumps as Lauren stood ready to walk in the arms of her dad. I always tell brides to breathe as it can be very emotional. And indeed, it was once more. I love those moments, and I knew Lauren loved it as well.
We held the reception at Brisbane City Hall, an iconic and historic venue right in the city’s centre. City Hall is gorgeous, from the engravings in the wall to the wooden floors. You know you’re standing on so much history. The venue houses several events at any given time, but has plenty of room and variety so it always feels special. Michael and Lauren chose the Brisbane room, which worked a treat with their bridal table which seated 10, as well as the additional 8 tables seating 8 each. There was more than enough room, and a massive dance floor where we partied the night away!
